Dispatch from Forbearance Presbyterian Church

The Prose of Sharon
by Charlotte Johnstone

Ever since Gladys Kaminski retired after years as Forbearance's secretary, Rev. Hustisford and the personnel committee have been searching for someone to replace her, a task that has proven more difficult than they could have imagined. Finding someone with the necessary computer skills, bookkeeping knowledge and general smarts was relatively easy, but discovering beforehand what personal quirks or odd tendencies might lurk below the radar of an otherwise ordinary curriculum vitae was something else again. Several candidates had come and gone and Rev. Hustisford was beginning to despair of ever finding another Gladys, a loss he felt even more acutely now that Sharon, the committee's latest "find," was installed at Forbearance's front desk.

Charlotte Johnstone is a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She (and the cast of Forbearance Presbyterian Church) welcome comments. Write to her at Horizons, 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202-1396 or email wjohns4949@aol.com.
