Gathering
Calling Presbyterian Women
to Awaken to God's Vision for Us
by Betty Bryan
"God's Vision-Our Calling"
is the theme of the 2003 PW Churchwide Gathering in Louisville,
Kentucky. For five
days, July 9--13, the Kentucky International Convention Center
will once again become Presbyterian Women's Convention Center.
Are you getting ready for
it?
Your planning team is. We are designing plenary sessions that
will challenge your spirit, stretch your mind, touch your heart,
comfort your soul, but not wear out your seat! You'll experience
a rich mix of keynote speakers, dancers, drama and singing. Yes,
lots of joyful, energizing singing!
As we plan, the planning team sings, too. We also study, worship,
cry, laugh and share our hopes and fears. Creating a seamless
Gathering experience for everyone is an awesome task because
we know the results will be at the center for PW's program for
the next three years. We pray a lot. Please pray with us that
all planning team members will receive the energy and imagination
to boldly sketch the big picture and carefully paint in the minute
details.
News You Can Use
Please share this inside information with others:
--The Reverend Dr. Janice Catron, editorial director of Presbyterian
Publishing Corporation's Geneva Press, but better known to PW
as the author of our 1996 Bible study, Job: Faith Remains
when Understanding Fails, will be the plenary Bible study
leader. A true teacher, she will have many innovative ideas in
store for us.
--The list of noteworthy plenary presenters continues to grow.
We've received acceptance from Joan Chittister, Joan Martin,
Jacqueline Robinson, Gloria Tate, Elizabeth Tapia, Jocelyn Thompson
and Martha Sedongei, among others. These women will challenge
us with tough issues and stretch our minds and hearts. They will
help us to examine our call and guide us in our search for where
God's vision is calling us anew.
How to Help
First, mark your calendar for July 9--13, 2003! Then, begin
inspiring your friends of all ages to do the same. Talented PW
Communications staff have already created an eye-catching logo
for the Gathering, and they will continue to update information
on the program in forthcoming magazine issues. So, awaken to
God's vision for Presbyterian Women and start spreading the word
about the 2003 Churchwide Gathering.
