Making Mother's
Day Happy in Malawi
by Gail Bingham
Presbyterian Women has been the
driving force behind the NetWorkers Malaria Prevention Project,
providing life-saving mosquito nets to African families threatened
by malaria. Individuals and PW circles from across the United
States have participated in this project-PW in Waterloo, Iowa
sewed mosquito nets; PW in St. Simon's Island, Georgia educated
their congregation about malaria; PW in Watertown, New York sent
special NetWorkers Mother Day cards to their loved ones.
Pregnant women are four times as likely
to contract malaria and twice as likely to die from it.
Mother's Day is May 12, 2002. New Net
Workers Mother's Day cards are available through the PC(USA)'s
International Health Ministries Office at no cost to PW groups
and churches. For information on how to facilitate this project
in your church, contact Gail Bingham, International Health Ministries,
888/728-7228, ext. 5573, or gbingham@ctr.pcusa.org.
