Setting a place for God

by Amy Scott Vaughn

The kids are chasing each other around the kitchen, wielding plastic golf clubs, the phone is ringing for the tenth time since 5:00 p.m., the chicken that was defrosting for dinner is still frozen and my husband and I have hardly had time to say "hello" after busy days at work. The chances of us sitting down at the table for family devotions followed by a delicious and leisurely dinner filled with uplifting conversation are slim to none. Some days it feels as if the closest we will come to "table spirituality" is plopping the kids in front of a Veggietales® video while we say a quick grace over take-out pizza. When just getting food on the table requires a balancing act, adding faith to the mix seems like a joke.

But maybe we should take a closer look.
