What is Presbyterian Women?

Presbyterian Women (PW) is a churchwide organization whose membership is open to all women of the PC(USA) who choose to participate in or be supportive of PW in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women inclusive of all ages, races, ethnicities and geographical locations so that it may reflect the rich diversity of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

How does PW work?

Presbyterian Women is organized at all levels of the PC(USA)---in congregations, presbyteries and synods, as well as at the General Assembly level. This connectional system allows ideas and information to continually flow back and forth to strengthen the work of Presbyterian Women and the ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

PW in the Congregation (PWC)
Presbyterian Women in the Congregation functions via PW circles---small groups that gather regularly to provide an inclusive, caring community of women. Circle leadership is elected, appointed or volunteered by each circle annually.

PW Enabler (PWE)
PW Enablers provide support and program resources to PW in the Congregation while serving as a liaison between PW in the Congregation and PW in the Presbytery.

PW in the Presbytery (PWP)
Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery exists to build community, affirm women's calls to leadership, raise issues and concerns, and to channel information to and from PW in the Congregation, Synod and Churchwide. Leadership terms are three years, with the option of serving a second term in the same office. Program meetings, open to all women, are held annually, and more often if appropriate.

PW in the Synod (PWS)
Presbyterian Women in the Synod exists to build community, affirm women's calls to leadership, raise issues and concerns, and to channel information to and from PW in the Presbytery and the Churchwide Coordinating Team. Leadership terms are three years, with each leader serving only one term without the possibility of reelection to the same position. Meetings are open to all women and occur at least every three years, but can occur more frequently.

Churchwide Coordinating Team of PW (CCT/PW)
The Churchwide Coordinating Team has primary responsibility for the ongoing life of PW in the PC(USA), serving as its administrative body in the interval between Churchwide Gatherings. Leaders are elected at the triennial Gathering of PW and serve a three--year term. The CCT/PW meets at least twice each year, its membership divided into standing committees and any special committees needed to implement the goals and objectives of the churchwide organization.
