Gathering
What's in a Name
by Sandra McKinney
Global Partners
Partners from around
the globe during the triennial banquet in their honor,
2000 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women, Louisville,
Kentucky.
Each Churchwide
Gathering of Presbyterian Women is blessed by the attendance
of women from around the world. Until recently, these women had
been called "International Guests," an apt description,
but as our understanding of mission changes and grows, the role
of these guests changes, too.
In 2003, Gathering participants will be introduced to Global
Partners---a name that accurately reflects our relationship with
these women as we learn from one another during and after the
Gathering. Our most well-known partners will come from East and
West Africa, specifically the countries of Ghana and Kenya, visited
during the 2002 Global Exchange. Other women will come from Europe,
Asia, South America and Central America. The Office of Global
Education and Leadership Development, Worldwide Ministries Division,
will also sponsor several international women studying in the
United States.
As our world grows smaller, opportunities like the Gathering
help us grow closer as sisters, colleagues and friends. The Global
Partners Committee and all of our invited guests look forward
to seeing you in Louisville this July.
Sandra McKinney is a member of the Churchwide
Coordinating Team of Presbyterian Women and chair of the mission
committee.
Meet our Global Partners
Gathering participants will have a variety of opportunities to
meet and hear from our Global Partners in the Great Room, at
synod lunches and in Global Encounters. You can also find them
in the Global Partners Hospitality Room---rooms 209 and 210 in
the Kentucky International Convention Center.
