One Thing I Will Always Remember

Waking up before dawn in Ho, I heard the sound of drums and powerful, joyful singing. It came from the Evangelical Presbyterian Cathedral next door and lasted about three hours as hundreds of people gathered for prayer. The music, interspersed with the crowing of roosters, made me think the whole creation was offering praise to God. To me, this represented the vitality of the Presbyterian Church in Ghana.
---Jean Vieten

Ghana and Kenya are beautiful countries with beautiful, hospitable and spirit-filled people. They are intelligent and highly motivated, and have excelled in academic pursuits. I want people to know "the rest of the story," so we can all work toward the economic liberation of the continent of Africa.
---Catrelia Hunter

The excitement, the smiles, the joy and the greetings of Kenyan church people are what I'll never forget. Everywhere we went we were greeted with cheek-to-cheek kisses and a warm handclasp. Clapping hands, tapping toes, singing at church, at Women's Guild meetings, and even at dinner in a home express the joy of these people, Oh, how I wish that Americans---and maybe Presbyterian Women---could experience this wherever we go!
---Betty Gunstra

We need to become more involved with the decisions our political leaders are making and advocate for better policies in relation to our African sisters and brothers. Leadership in both Africa and North America needs to change some ways. Knowledge is power---stay informed and involved!
---Jaxie Julian

I will always remember the hollow eyes, round face and voiceless expression of a young boy with HIV/AIDS living at the Tumaini Home, a project of Kenya Presbyterian Women's Guild. He touched my heart and brought tears to my face as he stood alone, watching his friends play. His eyes said to me, "I am one of God's beautiful creations and life for me is in the present."
---Alpha Brown

Africa is alive and God is alive in Africa! God's spirit is seen and heard in every movement and sound. The people are eager to share their lives---experiencing pain and joy, fighting for justice, reaching out a helping hand, rising to make a change. I want the world to see, hear and know that Africa is full of lively, spiritual and strong people. Our African sisters are living each day for the Lord.
