About
this Issue
Nurturing Our Faith
Welcome to the first installment
in a four-issue series that will unpack the
commitment statements in the PW Purpose-to nurture our faith
through prayer and Bible study (this issue); to support the mission
of the church worldwide (November/December '03); to work for
justice and peace (January/February '04); and to build an inclusive,
caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom (March/April
'04).
In a sense, Presbyterian Women nurtures our faith-providing opportunities
for fellowship, prayer, study, nurture and faith exploration.
Although the ways we choose to nurture our faith may vary from
person to person, none of us can do it alone. For that matter,
living out all the commitment statements in the PW Purpose requires
community. We hope these articles will be useful for you personally
and for your PW, your congregation, your community-for every
body of believers with whom you gather.

How to Use This Magazine
Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned
and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime
participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are
scattered throughout the magazine---in sidebars, boxes and sometimes
entire articles---because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders,
both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants
in Presbyterian Women are also active---in their congregation,
community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond
to what you read in Horizons.
The purpose of Horizonsmagazine is the same as the purpose
of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ
and empowered by the Holy Spirit
we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
to support the mission of the church worldwide,
to work for justice and peace,
to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
