Dear Bible study participants,

Once again, it’s time to come together with old friends, acquaintances and strangers who you will soon treasure as partners in Bible study. You will also meet amazing women in scripture who lived lives that, thankfully, I can only imagine—women who prayed without ceasing, endured hardships and pain, and through it all remained true to God. But before we begin, there’s something you should know about me—I am one of the childless women in your Bible study group. I cannot speak for all women without children, for every journey is different. But I can and must speak out about my own experience, so that others know they are not alone.

Rachel Whaley Doll lives in Rochester, New York, with her husband, Aaron, and their two dogs, Cameron and Chewbacca. A graduate of East Carolina University, she’s worked as a youth leader and Christian educator, and currently teaches English as a second language and reading in several local elementary and middle schools.

What challenges and difficult situations have Rachel and her husband, Aaron faced? How can you be more sensitive to men and women who want but do not have children? Read the full text of this article in the July/August 2004 issue of Horizons. Call 800/524-2612
