About this Issue

Cherishing the Gift of Creativity
“I wish I was more creative,” is an often-heard lament, as if creativity was a gift bestowed to some of us and not to others. What if I told you that creativity was given by God to all of us, we simply must learn new ways of accessing, recognizing or nurturing it?

In the words of cover artist Jan Richardson (p. 4), “As creatures of the Creator, we are each called to some kind of creative work, some way of participating with God in the ongoing creation of the world.” Whatever contribution you make—in your career or your hobbies, the causes you defend or the people you support, the way you raise your children or the ways you serve Christ in the world—you are part of this “ongoing creation” and by that definition, you
are creative!

How to Use This Magazine

Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine---in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles---because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active---in their congregation, community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons.

The purpose of Horizonsmagazine is the same as the purpose of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ
and empowered by the Holy Spirit
we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
to support the mission of the church worldwide,
to work for justice and peace,
to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
