About this Issue

Healing Our Broken World
So many of the articles in this issue are the result of our work on the July/August 2004 issue of Horizons, which had the theme “What Price?” Because we are Presbyterian Women, determining the price others pay to live in the world leads to the question “What can we do about this?” The result is this issue on healing our broken world.

You’ll notice there are no “big names” or well-known stories in this issue. Rather than dazzle you with news of what politicians and Oscar-winning actresses are contributing to our world, it is hoped the stories and individuals featured here will cause you to look at your own life and, when comparing it with what you’ve read, say, “I could do that . . . or at least something like it.”

How to Use This Magazine

Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine---in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles---because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active---in their congregation, community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons.

The purpose of Horizonsmagazine is the same as the purpose of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ
and empowered by the Holy Spirit
we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
to support the mission of the church worldwide,
to work for justice and peace,
to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
