What About the Women?

by Jane Parker Huber

"How do you continue to be faithful and support an institution that repeatedly, in its decision making, shows its disregard and disrespect for who you are and what you do for that institution?”

—Betty, Kansas

Your question echoes the words of centuries and generations of women in the church, the church universal. When confronted with challenges, how do we stay faithful? How do we continue to support the church with our time, our abilities and our money? How do we hold out hope for justice in this life? How do we make a strong witness for Christ when we feel under attack by the institution that is Christ’s body in the world?

Jane Parker Huber has served Presbyterian Women at all governing body levels for more than 50 years. Well-known as a hymn writer, she composes contemporary and inclusive songs using familiar tunes.

Jane explores how the reduction in force (RIF) affected the work of Women’s Ministries in the November/December 2004 issue of Horizons.
