Medicare costs and coverages are changing for everyone, and these changes can be confusing and expensive. Medicare beneficiaries should understand the parts of Medicare with changes that may affect them—Parts A, B and D, for most people. Use this overview as a starting point, reference guide or basis for a program on Medicare in your congregation.

Despite increases in the Social Security retirement age, Medicare eligibility remains at age 65. Medicare advises that individuals begin the process of application 90 days before reaching age 65, as the initial application process, which is through the Social Security Administration, requires verification of Medicare eligibility.
