Throughout this past year, I have presented What She Said: Quotable Women in Scripture at gatherings of Presbyterian Women across the country. People said they wanted to meet the author of the Bible study, but I knew they really wanted to meet the Quotable Women. So, of course, I took them with me.

“Get in the suitcase, women,” I told them.

“Where you go, I will go,” Ruth assured me as she slipped into the side pocket of my carry-on. “Where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God.”

“We’ve always had the same God,” I reminded her. “But you will love meeting your new people! Presbyterian women welcome strangers and sojourners, aliens and widows. All across the country, women are waiting just to meet you.
