Even when military issues are absent from the news, members of the armed forces and their families struggle with the effects of military service. While military chaplains address needs of personnel who are deployed, who cares for the deployed person’s family? Fear, separation, isolation, uncertainty and, sometimes, loss plague the spouses, children and other relatives of deployed personnel. Congregational care teams provide a way for congregations to respond to the real-life needs of these families. A group of volunteers forms a team and works together to offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to families of deployed military personnel.

What can you and your congregation do to help military families during difficult times? Find out in the November/December 2005 issue of Horizons.
