Presbyterians believe that God gave us brains and expects us to use them. So we encourage and support education—both within and beyond the church.

Many of us know students who leave our congregations and communities and “go off” to college. There are also college students who come into (or at least come near) our churches and communities. There are college students, faculty, staff and administrators who are members of our churches. And there are 65 colleges and universities that maintain an official relationship with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), many through covenants with one or more governing bodies.

Questions of faith and higher education come up
in a variety of ways all over our church. And the Bible offers some interesting and useful guidance for us as we consider some of these issues.

What does the Bible tell us about higher education—who’s involved? How do we do it? Why should we do it? Get the answers to these questions and others in the July/August 2006 issue of Horizons.
