About This Issue As the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) celebrates the 100th anniversary of the ordination of women as deacons (1906–2006) and the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women as ministers of Word and Sacrament (1956–2006), it seems only fitting that Horizons lift up the stories of women in ministry today. From pioneers like Louisa Woosley to fledgling organizations like the National Network of Presbyterian College Women, there is much to celebrate and much work left to do. How will you mark this anniversary? And what kind of legacy will you leave for others to celebrate 50 or 100 years from today?
Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine—in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles—because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active—in their congregation, community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons. Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit
