About this Issue:
Living at the Edge
What does living at the edge mean to
you? Does it differ from living on the edge? What can the edge
teach us about our world and ourselves?
Writers for this issue examine these questions and others. They
show us people caught up in precarious situations who responded
with faith and courage. They introduce us to people who look
for ways to maintain balance, even when being pushed to life's
limits. Whether the difficulties came by chance of birth, choice,
tragedy or calling, each of the people presented in these pages
has moved through suffering to a place of increased understanding
and hope.
These remarkable people embraced challenges and changed the world
for the better. We can, too.

How to Use This Magazine
Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned
and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime
participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are
scattered throughout the magazine---in sidebars, boxes and sometimes
entire articles---because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders,
both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants
in Presbyterian Women are also active---in their congregation,
community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond
to what you read in Horizons.
The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose
of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:
--to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study
--to support the mission of the church worldwide
--to work for justice and peace
--to build an inclusive, caring community of women that
strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to
the promise of God's kingdom
