About
this Issue
On the surface, this issue has a deceptively
simple theme-Women's Ways of Relating. But pause and consider
all the ways you relate to others during your day: as a spouse,
partner, mother, daughter, employer, employee, leader, participant,
friend, sister, caregiver, student, mentor, child of God . .
. the list is potentially endless.
The articles in this issue delve into only a few of these relationships,
providing examples of the ways women can relate and accomplish
some laudable goals. Although the examples are varied, the results
have something in common-something also found in the efforts
of Presbyterian Women-women see a need, ask what can be done
to meet that need and then set about the work of addressing that
need. Those ways of relating are what Christ modeled for us and
what the organization of Presbyterian Women strives for in its
purpose: "to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses
to the promise of God's kingdom."
How to Use This Magazine
Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned
and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime
participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are
scattered throughout the magazine---in sidebars, boxes and sometimes
entire articles---because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders,
both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants
in Presbyterian Women are also active---in their congregation,
community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond
to what you read in Horizons.
The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose
of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:
· to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible
study
· to support the mission of the church worldwide
· to work for justice and peace
· to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses
to the promise of God's kingdom
