About this Issue
Kinship
Consider the myriad phrases used to connect people in the church—brothers and sisters in Christ, the family of God, Christian friendship, a family of faith. What is it that truly connects us? For some it may be a common heritage or the ties of tradition. For others, a shared, life-altering experience, marked by joy or grief, can create a sense of family stronger than any family tree.
Contributors to this issue of Horizons bring stories of kinship and connection that span miles and generations, families of origin and families of choice. In our search for stories of kinship, we were reminded of all that’s good about the connectional church and the hope that abounds where “two or three are gathered in [Christ’s] name” (Matt. 18:20).

How to Use This Magazine
Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned
and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime
participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are
scattered throughout the magazine—in sidebars, boxes and sometimes
entire articles—because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders,
both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants
in Presbyterian Women are also active—in their congregation,
community and world-so we work to include ways you can respond
to what you read in Horizons.
The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose
of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ
and empowered by the Holy Spirit
we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
to support the mission of the church worldwide,
to work for justice and peace,
to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
