Turning Over a New Leaf What would we talk about if we didn’t talk about the weather? We ask over the phone, “Is it snowing there?” or to an arriving guest, “Did you have rain on the way?” How many school days begin with “What coat should I wear?” This interest in the weather is hardly a modern phenomenon. Thomas Jefferson did not rely on the Weather Channel or a weather radio when he recorded the temperature in his diary every day—twice! And yet weather talk is not simply filler, something to say when we don’t know what else to say. It is a way of being in relationship with others, with the world around us and with God who makes all things possible. What can we do connect with God’s creation on a daily basis?
