About This Issue
Women and Children

Horizons is an integral part of Presbyterian Women’s work to build and inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom. To that end, the Horizons Editorial Committee chose to create an issue that focuses particularly on women and children. Here you will find articles on being a mother, a sister, a daughter in God’s extended family. You’ll read about Mary, the mother of Jesus; the blessings of raising children; programs that benefit women and children; and women gathering to celebrate, worship and learn. Most important, we hope you will find yourself, a beloved daughter of God, somewhere in these pages.

How to Use This Magazine

Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine—in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles—because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active—in their congregation, community and world—so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons.

The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves:

  • to nurture our faith through prayer and
    Bible study
  • to support the mission of the church worldwide
  • to work for justice and peace
  • to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom
