About This Issue
Community and Hospitality

Fundamental to our Christian faith are the gifts of hospitality and community. In the most radical act of grace we have ever known, God sent Christ to be in community with us. Christ taught us about the hospitality of God, and shared that hospitality with us through his life and interaction with his community. Christ communes with us still today. We pray that in this issue you will find the same radical grace of God’s vision for community, along with an exhilarating challenge to pursue the gift of welcoming all of God’s creation.

How to Use This Magazine

Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine—in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles—because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active—in their congregation, community and world—so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons.

The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves:

  • to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study
  • to support the mission of the church worldwide
  • to work for justice and peace
  • to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom
